Car Chase
There is one extensive car chase which covers more than 34 writing spaces.
Urquhart has taken someone else's car
and is driving it recklessly through the streets
just for the hell of it.
It is a Porsche.
From: At the No
Harley Morgan was leaning on the front fender of somebody's Jeep, looking concerned. He recognized his car and his eyes went wide. "Motherfucker!" he yelled, scrambling off the curb. Urquhart put his head out the window. "Get in." Harley stopped dead, stone poleaxed by the sight of Uqbari the Car-Thieving Prophet. "Hurry up," Urquhart. "They can't be far behind me." |

Urquhart is deliberately engaging FBI agent Madden
in the chase. He is recklessly endangering Harley ; and any passers by.
Eventually they are stopped by the police,
which is unfortunate for Harley.
As he is black he is beaten up. Stereotypical violence by the police.
From: Press
The cop who'd taken Harley's wallet turned his head.
"Jesus, Sarge, this one's working press." (10)
Urquhart manages to get away.
Here the writing takes on a dream (or nightmare) quality.
Urquhart urgently wishes to reach the
university observatory.
An observatory might conceivably be a piece of Freudian symbolism.
