The Murders
When Frank was five years old, a visiting cousin, Blyth killed all the pet rabbits with a flame thrower. Frank wants to kill Blyth because Eric was so upset. It is a year before Frank can put his plan to kill Blyth into action. Blyth now has a prosthetic leg having lost his leg playing on the road and his behaviour is worse than before the accident. Frank puts an adder into the artificial leg when the boys are sleeping in the sun. When Blyth straps on the leg he is bitten, and dies. It is assumed to be a 'slightly macabre accident'.

Frank, aged eight finds an unexploded bomb on the beach, recognising it for what it is he tells his small brother Paul that it is a bell, like in church, and encourages him to hit it with a plank, when he, Frank, signals from a distance. The bomb explodes. Another accident.

Frank to some extent justifies this by saying that their mother did not like children and therefore deserted him soon after birth only to return to give birth to Paul and was then instrumental in his castration. |
