 People have speculated for centuries about the possibility of life in the heavens (that is everyone who looked up and thought that the stars might be very far away - rather than just painted on the crystal sphere farthest from Earth). They have always been popular in SiFi, probably because they fit in to our systems of archetypes. Even poets find inspiration in them. Aliens are endlessly popular in science fiction tv, especially the favourites, Dr Who, Star Trek and Babylon 5. Of these the Babylon 5 aliens are most interesting as they have character development and back stories with whole cultures of their own.
